"Non-mainstream" in China - Journal Questions #2~

"Non-mainstream" in China

In China, Korean Style and Japanese Style are very popular. We call them Korean Wave and Japanese Wave. Over time, the development of fashion is go to other way, Non-mainstream. (In Chinese, it is '非主流'.) As the name implies, it is the opposite approach of mainstream. It is an idea, a behaviour, and a attitude between Korean Style and Japanese Style. It is very famous in the generation after 80s. "Dark" is the keyword of this style. If a girl is called "Non-mainstream girl", she must have long curly dark hair, big eyes with black eyeline and long eyelash , and small face with smooth white skin. And she should wear simple clothes with shine decorative pattern as Korean Style or strange clothes with fresh color as Japanese Style. A Non-mainstream picture has strange characters, irregular cut, and dark background. Some of them doesn't have theme. Do you know the easiest way to change the simple picture to Non-mainstream Style one? Just change the backgrand color to dark. You can try it. Trust me~

  1. I think this sort of style is somewhat similar to American Emo. If you google Emo I think you will find pictures that are similar to the ones that you showed me.
